A Welcome Message from Your PTA President
Welcome to the Horizon PTA website! This will be my second year serving as PTA president and I am super excited about all the things the PTA has planned for this school year. Our main goal for the PTA is to be an advocate for all the children at Horizon Elementary. We want to collaborate and work closely with families as well as teachers and staff so that we can provide our kids with the best education possible. None of the programs could take place without family involvement, so I ask that you consider volunteering to help. Take a moment to check out our website and consider how you can help us be a voice for each child. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or contact any of our other PTA board members at their email addresses listed below.

PTA Executive Board Members
Mary Dougherty, President
My family and I have lived here in Madison for ten years and this is our second year at Horizon. I enjoy reading, spending time on our boat and I love going to the beach! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and worked as a Quality Control Microbiologist for a medical device company before we moved to Madison. Being a stay at home mom is the hardest job I have ever had, yet the most rewarding. I have a daughter who is entering third grade and a son that starts Kindergarten this year. It will be my first year serving on the PTA board and I am looking forward to being involved in all the programs Horizon offers throughout the school year.

Rebecca Colon Franz, V.P. of Volunteers
Hello! I have been living in Madison for 5 years and have had children in Horizon for 4 years. I love this school. I can say that honestly because we have experienced many schools since my husband and I are both Veterans. What I love about this school is how welcome and inviting it is. The teachers are excellent and the office staff is phenomenal. They not only encourage parent involvement, but they also provide many ways for parents to be involved. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities and the school truly values all the support they receive.
As VP of Volunteers, I will make sure that everyone stays informed of all volunteer opportunities. This is my first year on the PTA Board and I promise to give my best. Please don't hesitate to email questions, comments and/or concerns. I will try to provide the correct answers or point you in the right direction to get you an answer. I'm very excited about getting started. Its going to be a great year!

My family and I moved to Madison specifically for the great schools and I'm so happy we found Horizon! This is our first year here, with my child in kindergarten. This has been such a positive experience for our family and she loves coming to school every day. In my spare time, I enjoy making crafts, reading, exercising, and baking cookies. Before deciding to pursue volunteer opportunities, I worked for many years as a high school teacher. I am very excited to be working with the PTA and the Horizon community this year!

LeAnne Letize McGee, Communications
This is my fourth year working with the Horizon PTA, and I am honored to be a part of this incredible, award-winning PTA! My favorite part about working in communications is writing our monthly PTA newsletter, which I hope you all will read and enjoy! I also hope you will help me by submitting story ideas, and chatting with me about all of the wonderful successes and exciting things going on at our school each month. I am also the PTA website administrator, as well as the administrator of our PTA facebook page, so be sure to "like" us on facebook at facebook.com/HorizonPTA. Prior to moving to Madison in 2006 and becoming a stay-at-home mom, I worked as a trial lawyer in Florida. My undergraduate degree is in journalism, which I put to good use after moving to Alabama, when I spent 5 years as a part-time freelance writer for several local magazines. I love to help spread the word about what is going on at school, with our PTA and in our community. This year 3 of my children will be at Horizon and one will be at Discovery, and we are excited to get back-to-school!
