Annual PTA Reflections Arts Contest Theme is
"2020-2021 I Matter Because..."
The Reflections Program is a creative arts competition open to all Horizon Elementary students. This program allows students to display their artistic talents, creativity and vision through their choice of several artistic mediums, including the written word, visual arts, music or movement. Through the required yearly theme students are challenged to use their talents to communicate their own, unique ideas. Each year we are amazed to see just how clever and creative our students can be. The majority of students are not required to participate, but invest the time and effort to create these works of art, not because a class requires it, but because they choose to share their talents and gifts.
Winners are awarded at the school level, the City level, the State level and the National level.
Though Reflections entries are judged on artistic merit, mastery of medium and creativity, the primary judging criteria is how the student uses their artistic vision to portray the theme. Each student must not only express artistic talent, but also clearly and creatively interpret the year's Reflections theme. This year's theme is "I Matter Because...".
All Reflections entries MUST be the original work of the student. For example, photography entries must be photographs taken BY the student, and dance entries must be original dances choreographed by the student entering the piece. Only NEW pieces of artwork inspired by the national theme, "I Matter Because..." are acceptable. Adults should not alter or influence the creative integrity of the child’s work. Also, all entries must be entered by only one child. Video, dance, or musical composition entries entered under more than one child's name will be disqualified.

Original works of art can be submitted in the following six categories:
